Life is not fun when you’re a 22year old shy virgin living in Milton Keynes who has few friends, is bullied by all and has a slut for a mother, but Tony finds solace in his work as a Ski Instructor and annual holidays to Switzerland. However, when he breaks his leg thus shattering his plans he seeks refuge in a winter’s weekend away in Blackpool with Frank, his estranged trick loving, whiskey-drinking, has-been Grandfather, making his latest pilgrimage to the annual magic convention.

There, surrounded by lights and illusions of the Winter Gardens Tony meets and falls for Debra (25yr), a glamorous yet deeply unhappy Magician’s Assistant who is nightly impaled through the heart by “The Amazing Sorcarski” a horror-themed Illusionist with a craving for adulation and a dangerous new illusion that will make him famous but jeapordise her.

Despite an embarrassing first meeting Debra befriends Tony and through her he learns that Frank was very well respected and much loved in his day. However, complications arise when Tony, having learnt about magic from Frank in order to win Debra’s heart, discovers that she is locked in the latter stages of a bitter divorce with a sad-faced Clown who is obsessively stalking her. She wants to escape this fake world of illusion and Tony is unwilling thrust into the middle of a bitter rivalry over not only her but magic itself, forcing him to overcome his shyness and stand up for himself and the woman he has fallen in love with.
